Episode 33 — David Zweig

David Zweig on Hey Brooklyn
David Zweig is a musician and an author, with a documentary film brewing in his brain: another awesome multi-creative in the studio! I got some good advice out of him for young musicians and young writers.

We discussed his debut novel, Swimming Inside the Sun. Set in the early 2000’s, shortly after 9/11, the book follows Daniel Green, a 27-year-old New Yorker reeling after the loss of a record deal. I won’t give too much away, but I’ll say this: the novel is so well written that, while reading, I literally rolled my eyes and got annoyed when I felt the character was being annoying. It is such a pleasure to read a book that made me feel so much, and fascinating to read a book that made me a little angry at the character.

David got into the ins and outs of writing, the underlying themes of the book (especially Dan’s self-awareness), and our interview became an in-depth look at the process of writing.

DavidZweig.com is the “hub” of all things David Zweig, including his music, and you can use buy his book from Amazon.com
